Friends of TNWR face several challenges as we fulfill our mission to support the refuge needs. But with all the items we need to tackle, our major focus is on getting the kids to the refuge for Environmental Education field trips. They are the future conservationist and we are invested in that future.
In 2017 more than 3,000 kids visited Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge on more than 60 field trips totally funded by the Friends organization. Many of these children were in the woods for the very first time. As the buses arrive their eyes light up and the magic continues all day as they connect with nature. Since a recent high school field trip, a senior student has reported that he is exploring college options so he can have a career in the natural resources. And to see the young child looking up to the Ranger and proclaiming this is the first time ever to be in the woods or walking along the lake. These are the next generation of conservation stewards, teachers and refuge rangers.
The Friends organization has been in existence since 2005. The organization began fundraising project last year to assist with our many program successes. Your participation in these Paint Parties is greatly appreciated and pat yourself on the back for helping the Friends TNWR work continue.
